Hi everyone, my name is Allie Houston, and I am from Pearl, Mississippi.  I am the Admissions Counselor for the South Alabama area and am really excited about the opportunity to talk to students about all the great things Mississippi State offers.  I am a two-time graduate from MSU.  I graduated in 2021 with a bachelor's degree in psychology, and I just recently graduated with my masters in Higher Education Student Affairs.

Get to know me

What is one experience students shouldn't miss?

I think that all students should go to Bulldog Bash at least once during their time being a student at Mississippi State. It is a free concert that our music makers club puts on each year. We have had so many great artists come in the past and I look forward to it each year. I would even recommend if you do know who is performing that you should still go and trust me you don't regret it.

How would I describe the atmosphere on campus?

I would describe it as one big family. From my experience, I would often walk across campus and see so many different people that I knew. I would always get the chance to see people I have not seen in a while, and I always looked forward to meeting up with my friends in between my classes.

The main reason you chose MSU?

Mississippi State has always been a second home to me because both of my parents are Alumnus. I actually thought that I wanted to be different and go to another school, but when I came for a campus visit, I immediately fell in love. Throughout my college search, my mom would always say to me that when you find the right school for you, it will just feel right, and MSU felt right. I knew that I wanted to continue my education at Mississippi State.

Favorite memory of a club or organization?

As an undergraduate student, I was a part of Greek Life here at Mississippi State. Bid Day was always one of my favorite days of the year. So, when I got the opportunity to plan a Bid Day for my sorority, I was so excited. It was by far one of my favorite memories of being involved in an organization. This was back in 2020, so the uncertainty of everything was a little crazy and I kept having to change my plans, but watching everyone so excited getting to have this experience was truly an amazing feeling.

What is your favorite Starkville restaurant?

This is a hard one because there are so many great options in Starkville. My favorite restaurant is Bin 612. Although everything that I have tried there is amazing, the cheese fries are unbelievable. I also really like the atmosphere of Bin 612 sitting outside on the patio eating cheese fries with my friends is unbeatable.

Something about you that might surprise people?

I know that this is going to sound a little weird, but one of my favorite things to drink is tomato juice. Everyone always thinks it is crazy, but trust me it is delicious.
