Howdy y'all! My name is Shelby Nolte, I'm the Houston Area Admissions Counselor for MSU.  I graduated from Mississippi State in 2016 with a degree in Elementary Education and a minor in art.  I am thrilled to recruit in the Houston area for State because I actually grew up in Katy!  I am so ready to help make the Texas Gulf Coast TRUE Maroon.

Get to know me

What is your favorite tradition at MSU?

My favorite tradition at MSU is decorating and customizing your cowbell. During my time at Mississippi State, I hand painted over 650 cowbells.

What advice do you have for future students?

My advice for future students is to get involved! I went to State knowing absolutely no one and came out with lifelong friends.

What is your favorite student organization and why?

My freshman year, I tried out to be a Roadrunner and it was by far my most rewarding experience. MSU Roadrunners are essentially tour guides for the University. Not only did I make tons of friends and learned lots of valuable communication and marketing skills, it also helped me land this job 7 years after graduating. You never know how putting yourself out there and pushing yourself will change your life!

What is your favorite place to shop in Starkville?

My favorite Starkville shopping hack is the Capri Blue warehouse sales! If you didn't know, the famous Volcano candles, that are sold at Anthropologie, are made in Starkville, Mississippi. Usually, once or twice a year, Capri Blue has a huge sale where you can stock up on all of the candles and products for a fraction of the cost. Make sure you follow them on Instagram so you don't miss it!

Something about you that surprises people:

Something that might surprise people is that I have 6 backyard chickens. I literally live in the middle of the suburbs in Katy, TX, so it is definitely uncommon. They seem to really enjoy city living in their pink coop! Their names are Spicy, Sweetie, Snuggles, Sassy, Sandy, and Snowball. Their names all start with "S" because my husband and my name starts with "S."
