Scholarships - [ leadership and service scholarships ]
*Admission to the university and an online resume are required for scholarship consideration.
*Recipients must enroll as a full-time student the semester in which the award is received. Recipients also must remain in good standing.
National Service Scholarship
- Priority Date: August 1
- Award: Two-year award, $2,000 ($500 per semester)
- Criteria:
- Must be a freshman or sophomore enrolled in ROTC classes
- Must have a minimum 20 ACT or a 940 SAT
- Not currently on an Army or Air Force scholarship
- US citizen
- Meet service age requirements
- Meet service height/weight requirements
- Pass PFT by second semester
- Pass DoD medical exam by third semester
- Scholarship is conditional on final approval of the Vice President of Academic Affairs
Congressional Award Medal Scholarship
- Priority Date: August 1
- Award:
- One-time award
- Gold Medal recipients will be awarded $1,000, Silver Medal recipients will be awarded $750, and Bronze Medal recipients will be awarded $500
- Awarded at the highest level of achievement at the time of admission
- Criteria: Must submit a letter of verification by the student's state representative or University's President. The letter must include the level obtained and the date received.*
4-H Scholarship
- Priority Date: August 1
- Award: A one-time award of $1,000
- Criteria:
- Be an entering freshman
- Must be named Outstanding 4-H’er by the county representative
- Mississippi resident
- Must have a scholarship GPA of 3.0
- Must submit a copy of award certificate or verification from county representative*
JROTC Scholarship
- Priority Date: August 1
- Award: A one-time award of $500 ($250 per semester) for entering freshmen
- Criteria:
- Mississippi resident
- Must have a scholarship GPA of 3.0
- A letter of verification must be submitted by the high school Reserve Officers' Training Corps sponsor*
- Student must still have an active part in Junior ROTC
Eagle Scout/ Gold Award Scholarship
- Priority Date: August 1
- Award: A one-time award of $1,000 ($500 per semester)
- Criteria:
- Must have attained the level of Eagle Scout or Gold Award upon the time of admission and submit a copy of award certificate or letter from council leader*
- Must have a scholarship GPA of 2.5; or have completed at least 48 hours of transferable community college courses applicable to a bachelor’s degree at MSU with a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 for transfer students
- Mississippi residents and/or awarded from a Mississippi based council
Junior Miss Scholarship
- Priority Date: August 1
- Award:
- Awarded to the local winners of the Mississippi Junior Miss Program (only awarded to the winners, no first or second alternate awards)
- A one-time award of $1000 to be used the freshman year
- Overall winner for the state of Mississippi receives $2,500 for the freshman year
Key Club Scholarship
- Priority Date: August 1
- Award: A one-time award of $250 per year of high school participation up to a maximum of $1,000
- Criteria:
- Be an entering freshman
- Have the recommended minimum of 50 service hours each year of participation
- Submit a letter of verification of participation and hours by Key Club sponsor*
- Have a scholarship GPA of 3.0
Anchor Club Scholarship
- Priority Date: August 1
- Award: A one-time award of $250 per year of high school participation up to a maximum of $1,000
- Criteria:
- Be an entering freshman
- Student must have provided service to those in need
- Submit a letter of verification of participation and hours by high school Anchor Club sponsor*
- Have a scholarship GPA of 3.0
*Leadership and Service Scholarships were established fall 2007. Only
students who entered in the fall 2007 or later are eligible to be considered.
