Please note that our scholarship program is reviewed each year and is subject to change. The information provided below is for the 2018-2019 academic year.
- Mississippi State University has a variety of academic scholarships for community college transfers working toward their first bachelor’s including scholarships for Phi Theta Kappa, Phi Theta Kappa All-Mississippi Academic Team, and overall academic excellence. In addition to earned outstanding honors and awards, these scholarships require a competitive GPA on a minimum of 48 transferable community college hours and excellent leadership and service activities.
- Admission to the university is required for all scholarships. To be considered for competitive, leadership and service, and private scholarships, the general scholarship application must be submitted.
- Students must enroll as a full-time student in the semester in which the award is received. Renewal of scholarships and non-resident scholarships is based on maintaining continuous full-time enrollment and maintaining the required GPA as listed in the scholarship offer. Enrollment and GPA are checked at the end of each spring semester.
- Academic scholarships will be deferred during the work phase for co-op students.
Steps to apply for Scholarships at MSU:
- Student must be admitted.
- Log in to your MyState account using your NetID and NetPassword.
- On the Banner tab, under the Financial Aid and Scholarshpis column, click "Submit/Revise General Scholarshp Application."
- A new window will pop up, and you'll need to log in again using your NetID and NetPassword.
- When you're logging in for the first time, you'll need to complete the general application.
- Don't forget to click the "Save" button! When you're returning after your first log-in, you'll be able to see your saved information.
- After you complete and submit your general application, you may have additional opportunities recommended to you based on your test scores, GPA, leadership and service, and applicant record. More opportunities may become available over time, so we encourage you to log in regularly and check your account to see if any additional recommendations appear.
Academic and non-resident tuition scholarships are awarded to eligible students for up to eight semesters. The amount of the scholarship is equally divided between the fall and spring semesters. Students must maintain continuous full-time enrollment and maintain the minimum required GPA as listed in the scholarship offer.
All students have the right to appeal their Scholarship status. Exceptions may be made in cases of mitigating circumstances such as: Death in the immediate family, personal injury, illness, etc, as determined by the Office of Admissions and Scholarships and the University Scholarship Appeals Committee.
The Appeals Committee will meet once a year in June. Students may obtain the appeals form from the Office of Admissions and Scholarships by June 1. The University Scholarship Appeals Committee has authority over all appeals and its decisions are final.
Non-Resident Tuition Scholarship Reinstatement Opportunity
Non-resident students whose GPA falls below the required minimum 3.0 GPA will have the opportunity to earn back the non-resident tuition grant/scholarship provided the student meets the following requirements:
- Must successfully bring cumulative GPA back up to an overall 3.0
- Must maintain continuous, full-time enrollment at MSU during the fall & spring semesters
- Must have remaining semesters of non-resident tuition grant/scholarship eligibility (each fall/spring semester that a student uses to earn back the non-resident tuition grant/scholarship counts against the total semesters remaining)
Once a student regains an overall 3.0 GPA, it is the student’s responsibility to notify the Scholarship Office for the reinstatement of their non-resident tuition scholarship.
Summer Scholarship Request
Students who co-op during the fall/spring semester and/or students who plan to graduate early (with verification from their academic advisor) may request to apply one semester of their scholarship(s) to a summer term by completing a Summer Request Form. Summer Request Forms will be available in the Scholarship Office in May. All other requests must be received by the University Scholarship Committee.
Scholarships for Early Graduates
Academic Scholarships are awarded up to 2 years (4 semesters). Students who graduate from MSU in less than 2 years (4 semesters) and have academic scholarship semesters remaining, may be eligible to use the remaining academic scholarship for graduate school. Students must maintain continuous full-time enrollment and maintain the required GPA as listed in the scholarship offer. The student must be admitted to graduate school at MSU and must be enrolled full time in the semester in which the award is received. The student must contact the Scholarship Office to determine eligibility.
