What is a transient student?

A transient or “guest student” is a student enrolled at another university, but taking classes at MSU that will count towards their degree at their home university. Enrollment is only on a temporary basis (such as a summer session) and is typically limited to one term.

What is needed for admission for a Transient student?

Students will need to pay the application fee (NO waivers accepted), upload the completed letter of transiency (link in application portal when the student chooses "transient"), and have an official transcript sent directly from the college they are currently attending to Mississippi State University showing final grades for the term immediately before MSU enrollment (ex: if applying for summer 2024, MSU needs spring 2024 grades).

What makes me a transfer student

Students may transfer to Mississippi State University from a regionally accredited community, junior or senior colleges for any period of enrollment, provided they have earned a 2.0 GPA on all college courses attempted (as computed by Mississippi State University), as well as earned a 2.0 GPA on the 30-hours of core courses. Applicants must list all colleges attended on the application for admission, must be in good standing with the last college or university attended, and must meet one of the following options for admission.
